Good Food, Amazing Ballet, Fall Fun, and a Bucket List Item

“There is a harmony in autumn, and a luster in its sky, which through the summer is not heard or seen, as if it could not be, as if it had not been!” ~ Percy Bysshe Shelley

Day to day goings on

I feel like I lived ten lives last weekend. I admit I don’t usually do weekly or even weekend recaps. Despite living in the city, my day to day schedule is pretty darn boring. I get up, run or do yoga, (though with the shorter days it is a little harder to do that) then work, work, work. It varies if I have an event (which I usually try to blog about) or hang out with friends in the evening. Then of course, there are the days I just want to crash and binge-watch mindless television. Sometimes I do my workouts in the evening, since the mornings are so dark now. My weekends are much the same. Making my own schedule, I don’t have a day off, if I don’t want one, and I can pick and choose what my “weekend” is. With all the traveling I do, I get enough time off and I like being busy. But this past week, I had tons of goings on that deserved to be recapped.

The weekend actually kicked off with helping my best friend move on Thursday. Which moving in New York is NO flipping joke. She lived on the fifth floor and was then moving to the second (I also decided to do laundry that day.) up town ten blocks. While she hired movers, we lugged the more perishable goods like her television in Ubers, making multiple trips. I used muscles I did not realize I had!

Afterwards, she treated me to the most delicious gluten-free cupcake that is from a bakery located right across from her. Umm can we say new addiction? It was SO frickin’ yummy! I think I will be visiting her quite often.

Butcher’s Daughter

There are an abundance of amazing Vegan and Gluten Free restaurants, but none are as delicious or as Instagram worthy as The Butcher’s Daughter. Right away I loved the name and the play on words. Located in the West Village, they have a couple locations in the US and if one is near you, you NEED to go!

Their menu is extensive and it really is a jack of all trades kind of restaurant, serving, smoothies, coffee, breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, and delicious desserts. In New York you have to maximize space and they do that well.

While the menu is extensive, they document everything that is vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free, nut free etc. They also mark underneath their dishes what can be substituted to make dishes vegan or gluten free. I was with someone who is vegan not because it is a choice, but because he will die if he eats animal products, and they helped him find food and substitutions without even blinking.

I had the plantain bowl, which had beans, avocado, cabbage, and rice. It was SO yummy and the perfect way to jumpstart my Friday night! I highly recommend this place. And while it is a little out of my way, it is definitely worth the trip, one, I will be making more often!

MorDance’s Romeo and Juliet Reimagined

If you saw my (multiple) Instagram stories, you know I was hyping this up. Guys I know this is journalistic bias, but my cousin is so flipping talented! She is a professional ballerina who six years ago decided to open up her own ballet company called MorDance. In a world where female choreographers as well as directors are rare, she is breaking boundaries and succeeding. This year she is tackling the momentous challenge of doing a full length ballet. Her take of Romeo and Juliet.

Friday night, she gave a preview called “Work’s in Progress” from the ballet. Again, I know I might be slightly biased, but her choreography is incredible and her vision stunning. Their is a balance of grace as well as power and each movement has purpose. In between pieces she did a Q&A explaining her process and the production of the ballet. Afterwards their was a cocktail hour where she, the production team, and the dancers mingled answering questions. It was such a fun night and I am so proud of her. I can not wait until May to see the final production.

Apple Picking

Saturday was a day of recovery and catching up on work.

Sunday I took the train to Poughkeepsie to go apple picking with my sister and her family. A nip was in the air, and it was finally feeling fall like. An absolute perfect day to pick some apples and have a little photo shoot.

Every year we go to DuBois farms and it is always a great time. Their is so much to do and see from pumpkin patches to a little village for kids to play in to apple cider donut eating contests, to music in their tavern. There is always something going on. It was busy when we went, and unfortunately I wasn’t able to pick any apples due to a new adventure on Wednesday

Grateful

Monday I met up with friends and got last minute errands done for my big adventure that was coming on Wednesday.

I won’t lie and say Tuesday was easy. It was the eight year anniversary of when my sister was killed and all you can really do is just get through the day. I went to a Broadway show and had a pumpkin spice latte (my one of the year) in memory of her.

Thank you to everyone who reached out to me on Tuesday. The sweet words and compassionate messages meant the world to me, and helped to make it easier. I am so lucky to have so may amazing people in my life. ❤

Off to Texas

As I currently finish writing this, I am sitting by the pool at a gorgeous AirBnB in Texas. I am so excited to be able to check another state off my bucket list. I want to go to all fifty states, which shouldn’t be hard to do, especially if THIS munchkin can do it!

I flew out Wednesday, and it feels like I am getting a second summer. The weather while warm, has been absolutely gorgeous and I can already say, I don’t hate Texas.
