Happy NaNoWriMo AND the Start to the Holiday Season

Hello, Hello friends! Happy November first; the beginning of the holiday season in MY book, as well as the official start to NaNoWriMo! I know many people are rolling their eyes, but I personally can not wait for the holidays. And with my job, I have firmly been in the Christmas Craze for what seems like months. Don’t get me wrong, by the time Christmas actually gets here in two months, I will be done with it, but until then I am soaking it ALL up. Happily so! I may even have the Christmas Tree up already!

November doesn’t just signify the (unofficial) start of the holiday season for me. It is also the first day of NaNoWriMo otherwise known as National Novel Writing Month. A crazy, stressful, fingers flying across the keyboard, creative, both loving and hating the muse, will I be sane by the end of this? thirty days. The goal is to write 50,000 words during the month of November, which is the shortest a novel can be. It is a time where you just write. You don’t worry about story structure or grammar the goal is to just get the words out! As writers we can get caught up in the superfluous of novel writing and this helps teach us not too.

This is the fifteenth…fifteenth! Year I have taken part in this. And each year I find myself being pushed as both a writer and a human. NaNoWriMo is as much about self discovery, as it is about writing. Humans are incredible things and if we put our minds to it, we can DO incredible things. But we have to be open to the experiences and even the discomforts, put the hard work in, and take the opportunities when they come! I for one am super excited! November is an insanely busy month, but it is all immensely gratifying. From taking part in NaNoWriMo, to the holiday madness, I am excited and ready for it!
