A Fashion Reflection

2022 was a year of comfiness, glam, and finding new, innovative, creative and fashionable ways to style the same items in my closet. I took trends and worked with what I had. And while the nineties came back in epic proportions, as someone who had been there and done that, I picked and chose my favorite trends and left the rest on the shelf as any good fashionista does. Ultimately fashion is a reflection of YOU. It is YOUR style, not anyone else’s.

I lived in spanx. I rocked ALL the pretty dresses, and probably bought way to many. I admit I am dressed obsessed…and happily so. Nothing makes me happier then a pretty dress. I adore my yoga wear, and I discovered a new obsession with the Love Tank from Lululemon which I own in pretty much EVERY color. I put my own stamp on athleisure wear and mixed comfy with being chic. I wore ALL the nautical fashion, and fell in love with the it jacket from Lulu’s which I also got in pink, because why not? I adored the fact that coatigans are back again and given a fun name, and I made sure to stock up less they go back out of style and I am left waiting another ten years for them to come back again.

It was also the year of giving fashion a try. Styles I had shied away from, I decided to give a chance, and if I didn’t like it, I didn’t like it, but I also ended up shocking myself. I lived in joggers that I finally, after years of hating, fully embraced. (I now own four pairs WHO am I?) And I am now a proud owner of (pink!) Birkenstocks, that I admittedly love after hating for decades (if you grew up in Northern New England you KNOW). I finally gave the cut out trend a chance and instead of feeling self conscious, was obsessed!

It was a year of saying yes to fashion trends but also being comfortable enough to know when it was not working for me, or when it just was NOT my taste. 2022 was a lot of things, but one bright side was I fully felt like I embraced my style to the fullest. I owned WHO I am, and ultimately that is what fashion is. A reflection of who you are, an outer embodiment of your soul.

For 2023, I am looking for more ways to be creative with what I already have, using staple pieces to be trendy, but also evolve my style. While I am looking to buy less this year, I can’t say I won’t not be buying a new dress or ten. After all you can NEVER have to many dresses. I am excited to further push my boundaries when it comes to fashion. I also want to continue to work with smaller brands, especially those women owned companies as well as sustainable and ethical fashion houses. I know I keep saying this, but fashion is a reflection of us and so are the brands we wear. Fashion doesn’t have to be stressful or intimidating, but actually enhance who we are and give us confidence.
