A Kinda Kate Recap

“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.” ~ Charles R. Swindoll
Since I came back from Charleston, life has been all kinda of hectic with many ups and downs, (The reason my Charleston posts took forever to upload and I have been horrible about communication. I am sorry guys!) I won’t lie, I am missing the southern hospitality, beautiful weather, and beaches something fierce.
Since my trip to Charleston, we have had three (count ’em!) Nor’Easters, tons of snow and it is currently back to freezing where hibernation, eating pints of Ben and Jerry AND binge watching Real Housewives are the only way to survive. Have I mentioned it is freezing?
And it is March!
I don’t know who or what did to who or what, but SOMEONE pissed off Mother Nature and needs to do some major groveling.
Oh my lanta, I miss the South!
It hasn’t all been doom and gloom, we did have a couple days (two, but I am not quibbling…much) of warmth, where I got to go for runs where I would actually feel my legs as I pounded the pavement. I also had a day where I wore flip-flops. Yes! Flip-flops!
Alas it didn’t last long.
My Gemini twin visited, which was long overdue and we painted the town. Okay not really, but we definitely got in our miles despite the cold, and impromptu snowstorm.
I got to cover fashion week again, and I have been insanely busy writing. To the point I admit, it was a little overwhelming trying to juggle everything, but it finally has eased up. (thank you Seshat and Thoth…A.k.a. the Writing Gods) Next week begins the 2018 NYC Teen Author Festival which I am excited to attend and see some of my favorite authors and friends.
I was able to get my frequent skating miles in before Bryant Park closed. They always close ridiculously early. I dragged quite a few friends to the rink this year, and made them
suffer channel their inner Yamaguchi and Boitano. It was so much fun and I am sad it has closed, BUT back to Chelsea Pier and of course summers on the lawn now!
Now I am going to be a bit of a mood killer and also blogging-vague, which really does NOT have the same ring that Facebook-vaging has, but its all I got.
Anywho, It seems when it rains it pours, and while I have been having my own existential life crisis, (okay a tad dramatic, but this last month has not been a cake walk…Actually what IS a cake walk? Okay I am digressing per usual) some members of my family have been having their own health issues.
My family has been through a lot. My parents especially, are flipping rockstars. I don’t know how they do it, and I am in awe of their strength, determination and unwavering love and support. When push comes to shove my family is always there and this time is no different.
It is times like this I really miss my sister. She was always that calming, usually sarcastic, force when shit hit the fan. And while I wish I could have a hug right now, I know she is watching us and putting her Guardian Angel status to good use. (Come on girl don’t they have gold status up there?)
All this said, if you could send prayers, healing vibes, and or good juju my families way I would greatly appreciate it!
With that in mind I am actually headed home. I had this trip planned long before any health issues crept up, but I am happy to be headed back and to spend QT with the fam.
In fact I sort of got conned by my almost (ahhhhh) five year old nephew who, at Christmas told me, “You know what would be amazing Auntie Kate? Is if you were here for my birthday.” HOW HOW do I say no to that?
Thus I attempted to hop on a plane because the lil munchkin turns five on Sunday (I am OLD!) and we have Starbucks dates, adventure walks, nerf wars, and lightsaber fights planned.
Well we will when he sees me.
He doesn’t know I am coming. Auntie Kate for the win!
It can’t ALL be easy
At least I would be winning best Aunt Award if Mother Nature hadn’t decided to roar her ugly (oh yes I went there) head and decided to throw a shit-fest causing my flight to be cancelled on Monday. After panicking, and much freaking out over nothing (legit New York got a dusting) I am hopefully flying out today, on a different airline.
Actually I am writing this in the terminal, since I got here four hours early because I was worried it would be a mad house. (it isn’t)
Brightside, the terminal carries Peet’s and I am currently sitting here sipping it. Even if it will be the most expensive Peet’s I have ever bought.
Fingers and toes crossed I get out, and if you could send some good vibes to the airline Gods (if you want to bribe them, I support that!) I would greatly appreciate that as well!
I hope you guys are all having an amazing week and have some fun Saint Paddy’s Day shenanigans planned. What are you doing this week and weekend?
I am a country girl living on the Upper East Side of the concrete jungle. My friends call me a modern day Renaissance woman. I have dabbled in a little bit of everything, from being a yoga instructor to holistic chef, to skating coach, to glorified nanny, to student. I am a self admitted coffee junkie. A wannabe mermaid. A wanderluster who dreams of other countries. A fashionista who really does need a bigger bank account. But most important of all, I dream of living in a bungalow by the ocean and being a published writer (in style of course) sipping coffee in the morning and a martini in the evening. I love to meet my readers, so feel free to comment or email me. Happy reading!
