First let me begin by saying I always want to pronounce it, like the vegetable pea as opposed to pep as in your step. While I have always loved the word, and the fun you can have with it. I have always admired this look from afar, with such a classic silhouette gracing those of timeless beauties. Being a curvy, petite girl, I was sure that I wouldn’t be able to wear it.
It didn’t stop me from lovingly stroking every shirt and dress I came across in this style. But it was a relationship better loved long distance then up close and personal.
Then I stepped into my addiction. The rest as they say is history. I was looking for a couple white tanks to wear under shirts and I came across this gorgeous white peplum styled blouse with rusching. It was love at first sight. At last I knew it was a forbidden relationship and I swiped left instead of right.
But as with any good friend or therapist, one of the sales assistants saw and talked me into going out on a first date with it.
As is the case whenever I go shopping, I was in workout clothes and dressing a dressy top with spandex doesn’t exactly give you the full picture.
I was on the fence about it. BUT I loved it!
This was either going to be a waste of my money and time or a love match. I made up my mind to take a chance on the shirt and brought it home.
At home, I paired it with a black skirt and fell deeper down the love tunnel. I then decided to have fun with it and experiment with different bottoms and jackets. I paired it with my dark wash ripped jeans from White House Black Market. It was utter, devotional love and I knew it would be my baby shower outfit I was attending in a couple weeks.
While I might be slightly satirical writing this post, the analogy of relationships and fashion marry like peanut butter and jelly. Sometimes you HAVE to take a chance on a style. Give it a second chance, before you can really decide whether or not it will work.
It is also a lesson that just because it may not fit the conventional body mold or it may not look good on a mannequin, it could still make you look like a million bucks.
