Bidding Adieu Summer 2023

“I love how summer just wraps its arms around you like a warm blanket.”—Kellie Elmore, writer

The Last Day of Summer

How is it the last day of summer? HOW friends? I know I sound like a broken record, but I truly can not believe it is over! It flew by, and not in the best sense of the word. This summer was hectic. And while there were a couple sweet weeks, it is ending much as it began unfortunately. This wasn’t an easy summer, and I wish I had been able to enjoy more of it, but I am thankful for the times and days I was able to make the most out of it in all the chaos. My trip to Fire Island was especially gratifying and just what I needed. Memories were made, and many laughs were had amongst all the hecticness.

Summer truly is fleeting. Not just with the sunshine and warm weather though we seem to have gotten a reprieve in a longer summer with the weather still holding, though I don’t know if many people would agree with me. It was a rainy summer, but honestly I didn’t mind that. I loved the rain, and the storms, because afterwards the sun would always come out. Summer brings out the care free in me and I feel like most of us. We are more at ease, more laid back, more patient and more forgiving. Summer is just filled with ease even when life as a whole is crazy. There is something magical about the longer days, and it truly is something to be savored and it is a lesson I feel even more so after this past season.

So even though the sun is setting on summer, and it didn’t go as planned, I am savoring the incredibly sweet moments and holding them close. Like seeing deer at sunrise, jumping in the waves with my precious god-daughter, staying on an island, and talking long walks on the beach and yes that last one totally sounded like an early Y2K dating ad, but hey that is in now.

There was a lot to be grateful for, and while I do NOT look forward to the shorter days (hello seasonal effectiveness disorder) and the cold, I am embracing autumn and hoping that it at the very least it will be more easeful. So I bid adieu to you summer 2023.

How was your summer? What is a sweet moment that made you smile?
