Fancy Fridays

I once had someone tell me you couldn’t get dressed up “around here.” By here being in New Hampshire and Maine. It was a tad insulting, as she stared at my Tory Burch shoes, White House Black Market jeans, and coordinated shirt jacket and scarf, all from Anthro. She left off the fact I didn’t belong in my hometown, but back in New York.

I know North Conway is a ski town, but that doesn’t mean you have to have the fashion sense of the nineties. And god for if you donn a dress. Nor does it mean you have to be one of the cool kids and follow the in crowd.

Oh no, in many instances I am the quiet kid listen but don’t hear. When it comes to fashion, I will go out of my comfort zone and I don’t care who stares and judges.

And no it doesn’t mean I am a New Yorker and am uppity.

If I want to get dressed up whether just for myself or like tonight, with my girlfriends, I will.

And that is what I did.

Environment or state be damned.

I donned a gorgeous aqua blue BCBG maxi with beading at the neckline, threw on a pair of stilettos. And hit the Top of the East in Portland Maine. (Mind you after about an hour of sea glass hunting on speed) with two of my besties.

We talked, we laughed, we sipped elegant cocktails and mocktails. It was a wonderful way to spend a Friday evening.

Top of the East which is situated on the fifteenth floor of the Westin Hotel, has panoramic views of Portland and her harbor.

As we sat and chatted we watched the sun set in the horizon, casting vibrant tendrils of color.

It was a reminder to look past the surface of an area or person, because you may not know what you will discover.

Break the mold. If you want to dress up just because do it. Do it for yourself and no one else.
