“In 2006, when I had come very close to calling my agent and telling him I needed to take a break, NaNoWriMo was where I found my inspiration again.” ~ Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
Wha— what did I just say? I swear it isn’t gibberish. Nor is it the name of a Pokémon character.
NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month. Otherwise known as the month where writers go crazy. Literally. Hair pulling, sleep deprived, coffee addicted (not that we aren’t already, but I may or may not be asking all my med friends to figure out a way to just give it to me continuously IV style..HELP A GIRLFRIEND OUT!) Living, breathing, snoring our characters. Really we should have a sign on our foreheads telling people to beware and to talk to us at their own risks. Danger! Crazy writer in progress!
Semi joking and going certifiable insanity aside, NaNoWriMo is a chance for writers published, and fledgling to push themselves. Whether it is just to get the words out, or to try their hand at a different genre. The goal is to write fifty thousand words (a novel) or more in thirty days or the equivalent of a month. Which just so happens to be November.
The incredible thing about this event, is that everyone does it. Whether you write romance or sci-fi. Fiction or non fiction. NaNoWriMo brings everyone together. While there is an official website where you can keep track of your word count, submit work, and join in writing binges. There are also countless support sites on various social media platforms around the world. As well as weekly (even daily) meet-ups in your area. You are not in the craziness alone!
That is the beautiful thing about NaNoWriMo. We are all each others cheerleaders. Brought together by one common goal. To write. Just write. There is nothing better then that simplicity.
Are you doing NaNoWriMo?
I once started on one after college, but then I stopped writing after I found a job. It’s still lying in the corner gathering dust. Maybe it’s time I continue writing!
Ahh that is the thing that stinks..pesky life! 😉 You definitely should! If nothing else it is great for the soul!:) Good luck whatever you decide!:) <3
Thank you <3
