If parents are the fixed stars in the child’s universe, the vaguely understood, distant but constant celestial spheres, siblings are the dazzling, sometimes scorching comets whizzing nearby. ~ Alison Gopni
I am blessed to have grown up with four amazing siblings. They were my first lessons in friendship and examples of what it means. No where else would I have found four people who would tease me to death – some might even use the word torture- yet be my starkest defenders when ever anyone else tried.
They taught me about life. We united against the institution that was our parents. We played and imagined and ran outside amok during the summers. We had snowball fights, made forts, and rode snowmobiles during the winter. We were each others cheerleaders, attending concerts and football games with everything in between.
In the face of adversity, they taught me what it was to be strong, to lean on people, and that no matter what siblings and family are the most important thing.
So thanks guys! I am happy to be related to some pretty cool people….I mean you’re okay.
Happy National Sibling Day!
