New Years Resolutions

“If you asked me for my New Year Resolution, it would be to find out who I am.” ~ Cyril Cusack

I am not one for New Years Resolutions. Due in part because many times it is the “Vogue” thing to do and so many people feel frustrated and downtrodden by the middle of January when you have slipped up, which you are bound to do.

We are human peeps. It is in our DNA to err.

It doesn’t make us a horrible person, or a failure, yet many times that is what we are left feeling like. We didn’t keep our resolutions. We blew it. And once we blow it we decide to keep blowing it.

A large reason we do, is we set unattainable goals for ourselves right of the bat. I want to lose weight. I am quitting sugar or coffee. I am going to get that dream job, or go back to school. It isn’t the goals we set for ourselves. It is the fact we set them with no way to attain them. We feel like juts because it is a new year we have to set these crazy goals and if w don’t see some progress by the end of Janary we are failure so we quit all together.

I am a firm believer that every day is a chance to better yourself. To take small steps towards bigger goals.

I am not saying not to dream, I am a huge dreamer, as an artist it is written into my Genetic code. Literally.

But the road to dreams, is filled with baby steps. Many times putting one foot in front of the other. Taking it piece by piece until finally you reach the holy grail of your goal.

It is much like writing a book. You have to sit down and write it. Sometimes it can seem daunting. Sometimes you only write one word. Or ten thousand. And then you edit. You take each step as they come.

Small goals lead to bigger goals. Goals you can make every single day. Not juts at New Years but whenever you feel like it.

So no I don’t make New Years resolutions because it isn’t just for a year or for a few months, it is life Life goals, Life dreams.

Are you making New Year Resolutions? What are your thoughts on the subject? What are some goals or dreams you are striving for this year?

  1. You make me love reading your blog more and more, I 100% agree with you on this. In a way all these resolutions everyone is setting for themselves is somewhat overrated. Just as you said, yes you can dream and take steps to achieve your dream and better yourself- but at the same time I’m sure come EVERY NEW YEAR people have had the same things on their list from the previous year lol I say just live life, do things you want, better yourself, and reach for your goals 🙂 You rock and love your cute little self in that photo!!

    1. Awe thank you so much for the sweet words! This just made my Sunday!
I agree with you wholeheartedly. For me at least, I never felt any motivation when I wrote them down, probably because EVERYONE did them. If there is a date or milestone I am apt to actually make a resolution, it is my birthday. Otherwise I make them as I go throughout the year, as you said “living life”:)
Awe thanks beauty! I hope you have an amazing year ahead! <3

  2. Yesss girl! So good! This is so well said. I feel like when I think of my times of growth, it’s never at the beginning of the year… it’s at random times when I have life events that form me, motivate me, and change my perspective. Rarely does that happen with the simple stroke of midnight! Goals are so important, but they can be chased after (and should be chased after) no matter what it says on the calendar. I could not agree more with every word of this post!!!! <3

    1. Thank you so much for the sweet words. Exactly! I agree with everything you just wrote. As you said and for me also, change comes at weird moments.
It is almost like when you were a kid, and would wake up and you are like oh I am taller today when did that happen (though actually that might be a bad metaphor cause that rarely happened to me, unless strapping heels on my feet counts lol) it is the same with life changing moments. They just happen and are rarely actually planned. I hope you have a great year ahead beauty! <3
