The Cure to the Creeping Crud: Fall Pilot Reviews

I know. I know. I have been MIA. And surely shirking my duties.

No. I didn’t decide to fly to some deserted island or get lost in the White Mountains surrounded by glorious foliage. I wish! Nope. I was knocked down by the creeping crud, otherwise known as allergies and a really bad ear infection (WHATTTT??? WHATTT DID YOU SAY???)

I think it is my body’s way of saying, “Kate, chillax and please cool it with the wanderlusting and adventures for a week.” Of course my rebel self is saying, “But, but.. I LOVE wanderlusting and adventures and life is to short to stay stuck in bed!”

I admit, I am not a good patient. I am the girl who skated on a fractured foot for months. Suffered with a “smokers cough” for over a year which was actually undiagnosed lyme. And despite having had pneumonia twice, still ran and did yoga. Now kids..Do NOT try any of that at home! Seriously. I am not writing this to say look at me. I am writing to say it was not the smartest things I have ever done in my life and in each case caused my recovery to last much longer. In other words I should have listened to my nurse whom just so happens to be my mother.

Yup mothers DO know best. Sometimes.

Thus I have spent the last few days in bed. Only surfacing to attend classes before putting my PJ’s back on, and throwing the covers over my head so I can ignore the whole world in order to feel better.

The one bright side in this situation is that when I am not snoozing’ the day away, I decided to catch up on all the new TV Pilots. Here is my review for the ones that caught my interest:

Conviction

When I heard that Agent Carter had been cancelled, I cried. Alas my tears quickly dried up when I realized that Hayley Attwell was going to be staring in a new show with some favorite actors of mine. (Remember Eddie Cahill from Miracle and CSI: NY, but really he was a hockey player!) Conviction is about a socialite (her father was president and her mother is a state senator) who is blackmailed by the city DA (Cahill) into taking over a crimes and convictions unit where each week they investigate a new case. It might sound procedural, but it isn’t. With the quick wit of the characters, a heroine you at times want to shake just as much as steal borrow her wardrobe, and the juicy drama of not just Attwell’s character, but also the supporting casts, this show quickly sinks her manicured nails in you and doesn’t let go. It airs Mondays at 10 on ABC. Or whenever you watch it on DVR.

Timeless

Thank God for DVR. Seriously because Timeless airs at the same time (pun not intended) as ConvictionTimeless is about a professor, a former special ops, and a computer tech, recruited to follow and capture a big baddie back in time before he changes history. For any history buff, this IS the show to watch. While it could get heavy with the confusing mind boggling ways of history being changed, as well as taking on sensitive time heavy issues. The lighthearted banter, chemistry between costars, as well as the intricate backstories, and intrigue all pull you in. I have already begun with the conspiracy theories and I have only seen two episodes! It airs on Mondays at 10 on NBC.

Bull

On the verge of dating myself, Bull reminds me of Michael Weatherly’s days on Dark Angel. Alas I feel like that was a better show. It isn’t that I hate Bull. It does have an intriguing premise about a doctor whose job is to analyze and sway the jury to get the verdict his clients want. Aside from Michael Weatherly, I don’t feel much of a connection with the supporting cast. It is one of those shows, you can tune in and have an enjoyable hour of television, but doesn’t make you lament the fact you have to wait another week to see it. I say save your DVR’s and watch reruns. Bull airs on Tuesdays at 9 on CBS.

Designated Survivor

For sure one of the most hyped about shows of the year and the most anticipated with Kiefer Sutherland’s return to television this show did not disappoint. Based on the real concept of a designated survivor (yes it really does exist and is not just for Hollywood.) it follows Kiefer Sutherland’s character as he becomes president after an attack on the Capitol during the State of the Union. While Kiefer Sutherland is no Jack Bauer with his glasses and Mister Roger sweaters, the former secretary of Housing and Urban Development is fast beginning to show his backbone as intrigue, conspiracy, and corruption come to light. It is an edge of your seat thrill ride as well as making you crave the next episode. It airs Wednesdays at 10 on ABC.

Notorious

By far MY favorite show of the year. This stars two of my favorite actors, who sadly haven’t had a that ultimate break, until now. And boy have Piper Perabo And Daniel Sunjata have their big break. A show that I was SURE was produced by Thursday night queen Shonda Rimes but isn’t, fits beautifully between Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away With Murder on its Thursday at nine time slot. Based on real life defense attorney Mark Geragos and news producer Wendy Walker, it shows how media can make or break a case and the relationships that bleed into each other as a lawyer and producer (Sunjata and Perabo respectably) work together to give the American public the juiciest stories they can, while still showing the client in the best light. With a supporting cast that draws the audience in just as much as the two leads this is a show that has a little bit of everything, murder, drama, sex, and intrigue. With an ongoing storyline, as well as fresh ones every week, it is definitely a must see show. It airs on Thursdays at 9 on ABC.

You can catch all of these pilots on iTunes for free or watch them On Demand.

What new show has you most excited this Fall? Do you agree or disagree with my reviews? As always I love to hear from you!

    1. I haven’t seen it, but it is on my list to watch since several of my favorite producers are on it and I enjoyed the movie it is based on. I am glad to hear it is good! <3

I am currently still obsessed with How to Get Away with Murder and Grey’s Anatomy. I haven’t watched notorious but I may need to add that to the list 😉
