The Ins and Outs of Tula Skincare

“All the makeup in the world won’t make a difference without great skincare.” ~ Khloe Kardashian

My Skin

Taking care of my skin has always been incredibly important to me. While I love the sun, I use sunscreen like it is my day job and hide my face under wide brimmed hats to the point people laugh because their is such a stark contrast between my face and the rest of my body. (thank god for good bronzer!) Growing up, I watched as my Mom’s side of the family aged agelessly without botox or plastic surgery. And while I am not against cosmetic procedures, I do prefer to do what I can to achieve skin as naturally, cruelty-free, and honestly, as cheaply, as possible, because he’s face it good skin, does NOT come cheap.

While I try to protect my skin from harmful rays, even when I run, there is unfortunately one battle I suck at fighting, no matter what I use. Thanks to the joys of PCOS and Endometriosis, my skin, even at thirty years of age, goes through periods where I look like I am wearing a pepperoni pizza on my face. While I had hoped I would outgrow it, hormonal acne, like the name insinuates, is a side effect of my crazy hormones which is all internal and no matter what I use externally, will not change my genetic make-up. As a kid it was a struggle, but as I have gotten older, I have become more educated on how much hormones affect my skin. It is as much what is going on inside, as it is what is happening for all the world to see on the outside. No amount of money can and will change that, though watching diet, and using clean products can help tremendously.

I am no stranger to the skincare and even the make-up world. It is why I make both a good and horrendous beauty blogger. While I have tried a lot of brands, I know what works for me and because of that, I won’t experiment for fear it will make my skin angry. It has only been in the last couple of years I feel like I finally have gotten a handle on my skin and created a great skincare and make-up routine for myself. I have found in Tula a brand that I trust and I know works for me. And while I will always struggle with acne because it is hormonal, at least until I go through menopause and/or have my lady parts removed, whichever ends up happening first, I at least have found products that have calmed my skin down immensely and work to diminish redness and scarring.

 Tula Bandwagon

For the longest time I fought the Tula bandwagon hard core. Fashion and lifestyle bloggers were promoting it left and right and I felt like it was a fad much like BeachBody or shakeology. While the bloggers who were using it have never steered me wrong and I consider them friends, I also have a lot of friends who “promote” stuff in an MLM way much like Rodan and Fields or Beauty Counter. Tula is not like that. AT ALL.

I finally jumped on the Tula Bandwagon, because I had been sorely neglecting my under eyes. I tried their Multi- Spectrum Eye Renewal Serum as well as their Glow Balm and I was instantly hooked. I realized if I loved these two products so much and they weren’t just hype, that I should try some of their other products as well. The reason you see tula and it is promoted so much is because their products actually do work. I for one am a Tula convert.

What is in Tula

One of the core ingredients in all of Tula’s products are probiotics. Probiotics aren’t just important for stomach health and digestion internally, but can help calm and balance your skin externally as well. Probiotics help balance the good bacteria in and ON your body. Microbiome don’t just live in your stomach, but also on your skin. By incorporating probiotics which is a natural ingredient into skincare, Tula’s products help reduce inflammation as well as nourish your skin leaving a healthy complexion as well a that glow we all love from them.

Besides using probiotics as a core ingredient in all their products, they also use an assortment of superfoods; from turmeric to blueberries, to papaya to rosehip and so many more natural ingredients. Free from many of the harmful ingredients found in “Good” skincare lines, Tula works to get you your best skin in the most natural and chemical free ways possible. Tula is also cruelty-free which I love. Their products feel super light and never leave my skin feeling greasy yet my skin is left feeling moisturized and with that famous Tula Glow.

Favorite products

All of Tula’s products are phenomenal, but it would be a cliche to say I didn’t have any favorites. Tula’s under Eye Brightening Balm is by far one of my favs, which makes sense since it was the first product I used from them, and led me down the Tula Rabbit hole. Tula has since released three brightening balms, my favorite being the Rose Glow and Get it which leaves a gorgeous shimmer while covering up those under eye circles and making me feel more awake, which we sometimes need. One of the key ingredients is caffeine so it should come as no surprise that I love it.

Another favorite product is their scrubs. They now have three of them which not only target different skin needs, but smell absolutely yummy. I am a huge advocate of exfoliating daily and the So polished Sugar Scrub is perfect for that. It is a sugar scrub so it dissolves super quickly when water is introduced, which makes it not only gentle but perfect for every day use. Plus it smells like a tropical escape!

I have come to swear by Tula’s Acne and Clearing Gel. I have used a lot of products that target acne and this is by far my favorite. Not only does it help to minimize flare-ups, it also reduces the redness and scarring on my face from the cystic blemishes. My skin has improved immensely since using this product. It is powerful, while still gentle enough to use every day without drying my skin out, which is what often happens when fighting acne. Combined with the Acne Spot Treatment, I have reduced the length of blemishes, which is a huge win.

This face wash is called the Cult Classic for a reason. Truthfully I have used a lot of cleansers, and I have for the most part always felt kinda blah about them. They cleanse my face, remove dirt, but many time I feel like they dry my skin out to much, or leave it feeling lackluster. Apparently I hadn’t found the perfect cleanser, because I am obsessed with this! Not only does it clean my face, but it leaves my skin feeling super smooth and it isn’t even a scrub or. face mask. It packs powerful push, without any of the harshness, and is officially my go to.

Y’all know by now how OCD I am about my face and the sun. Sunscreen is part of my daily skincare even in the winter months. It is why I was anxiously awaiting (and kinda shocked they didn’t have one) for Tula to. release a sunscreen. And they did NOT disappoint. The Protect and Glow Sunscreen just might be my favorite sunscreen. Not only does it protect you from harmful UV rays, but also blue light and pollution. There are not many sunscreens that do that. It also leaves a gorgeous glow on your skin, so you don’t have to slather on tons of make-up. Another bonus, is that it is reef-safe.

Much like cleanser I always kinda felt like primer was a necessary evil, but didn’t truly understand the benefits. This is coming from someone whose make-up routine is MAYBE five minutes long. Guys that was before I met the Face Filter Blurring and Moisturizing Primer. I don’t know how all these super food ingredients work, but they come together perfectly to not just create a smooth base for make-up, but also to wear this on its own which I love, because again, I suck at make-up.

Tula is my Go-To

Tula has so many great products from their Detox Jar to their Refreshing and Hydrating Face Mist that I could be here for hours talking about their skincare. They have something for everyone, that you really can not go wrong. One of the things I love about them, is that they are constantly coming out with new innovative products as well as always working to improve what they do have. There has never been a product I didn’t like. Another bonus, is that they are incredibly affordable, while still offering that high standard of clean beauty.

Skincare is such a personalized need for people. We are all unique so what works for me, may not necessarily work for you, especially if it is health related. But having struggled for so long with my skin, I wanted to share what does and IS working for me so that MAYBE you will find something on here that will work for you. It can seem like an endless journey and even war to getting flawless skin, especially when you don’t want to break the piggy bank, which is why I am so happy to have found Tula.

Do you have a skincare regiment? Do you use Tula? Is their a product you fought for the longest time against using and now swear by?

While I am not a skincare expert if you have any questions I will try my best to answer them, especially when it comes to Tula products!

This post is in no way sponsored by Tula, though I definitely wouldn’t mind if it was.

  1. Wooo! I’m intrigued! Love this post so much hun you’ve put so much effort into it ❤️ I haven’t used Tula before but it sounds so good! And I agree with the Khloe Kardashian quote – skincare is SO important! I think it’s an act of self love ❤️

The fact you tried an eye product from this brand first is so exciting! I find eye products for me don’t seem to make much difference – so the fact you found this one and it was so good it inspired you to try more from the brand, I want to try 😍

That primer also sounds amazing, I can imagine it now! So happy you’ve found something which works so wonderfully for you, thanks for sharing ❤️

  2. Tula sounds brilliant! I’m the exact same as you when it comes to beauty products – I’m very slow to add new products to my routine because if I’ve found something and it works I’M NOT TEMPTING THE BEAST!

It’s awesome that you’ve found a routine that works for you 🙂 (And also genuinely makes me want to keep an eye out for their products! They’re Kate tested and true <3 ) xx
