I stand on a cliff at the edge of the world.
The sea salty wind whips my hair,
Bringing the tastes of the earth to my lips.
As I try to hold on to grains of sand
Slipping between my fingers, grasping,
struggling to hold on.
To memories,
to life.
I don’t know. Only the sea does.
Dolphins jump and dive with freedom,
Freedom it seems we are shackled to with limits.
Their smooth bodies shimmer, with no cares.
No distress of who they are. What they are.
But the joys of the water.
The waves crash against the shore.
Washing away the imprints left on the earth.
Each one different, each one unique.
Changing along the tides of time.
Speaking softly, telling me to fly.
To take a chance.
I dive through the air lifting off the rocks,
Older then the dinosaurs themselves.
Timeless, whispering history, begging me not to repeat it.
But it seems we are destined too.
Like the coasts along the shore,
Our destinies are mapped out, so I take that leap.
The water sluices my skin. For a moment I feel,
What being truly free might really be like.
The water gently kisses my skin,
I am tugged under, being anchored to the sandy ground.
Protected like a babe in a mother’s womb.
I frolic through the water,
Finally feeling free of destiny.
The waves are my playground.
The ocean my home.
I am like the fish, the dolphins, even the sharks.
Feeding off the life of the sea.
The salt cleansing me of my burdens
I hear the sound of a conch.
Freedom. Freedom. Freedom. It calls.
Is it an illusion?
But no it comes in many forms,
The adrenaline of the cliffs,
The dancing of the waves.
The ocean is my haven, it is my chance,
To swim against the currents.
To take the dive, make the flip,
Trust in the journey, that it isn’t a trick of the water.
But the choosing of my dance.
I am a mermaid coming home.
I surrender to destiny,
Because the freedom is in my choosing
I swim on the waves of my own story.
Letting them knock against the rocks.
spread through the water, across the seas.
I am anchored to the ocean.
The sea salty air, whips at my hair,
Bringing the sea to my lips, not to hold on,
but to let go, to go ahead and swim.
I have found my home amongst the waves.
In the cleansing salt of the sea.
