The Right to Bare Shoulders

“I think shoulders are sexier than cleavage.” ~ Nicole Scherzinger

One of the trends this summer, is bare shoulders, whether it is off the shoulder tops or cut out shirts. The shoulders are getting their day in the sun. Who cares about toned biceps or midriff baring tops? It is the sexy sassy shoulders hey day.

I admit I struggle with my body. I have worked hard on self-love and body image. For to many years, I would beat myself up. To fat. To flabby. Never toned enough. Hours upon hours. Their have even been certain trends I have avoided like a Twitter war with Kanye, because they accentuated not just skin, but my insecurities.

Not this trend. If I have to pick a body part to love, it would be my shoulders. They are strong and yes sexy. I admit their have been times, we have had a love hate relationship thanks to injuries. But they are the one body part I can tone quickly and efficiently. They let me do push-ups. They help me do double salchows and other jump combos (which is actually how I ended up with labral tears and SICK Scapula) They are strong and because of that they make ME feel strong.

I do have to be careful because despite being petite, my shoulders are quite broad. But if I am going to dig deep into my sassy side and want to show skin, it will be my shoulders.

I love displaying them, and I display them proudly. I have always loved the halter cut, which goes in at the clavicle emphasizing the shoulders. It is a neck line that is flattering for everyone. Another fan favorite is strapless. Which during the summer is great because it helps with tan lines!

So this summers trend is one of my favorite. It isn’t just for a beach day or a tropical get away. You can rock this look out to dinner, during the day and definitely for a date, day or night.

At the beginning of the season I had bought a gorgeous purple off the shoulder top from Anthro. It could also be worn as a scoop neck and could be left flowing or tied at the waist. I loved it and I have gotten my monies worth in wearing it.

This past week I was at Anthro looking for a dress to wear to an engagement party. I found this gorgeous flowing off the shoulder pink top. I was worried it would be a little big as they only had it in a small, but I was obsessed with the color and I couldn’t resist.

The moment I tried it on. I fell in love.

My only complaint with off the shoulder or cut out shirts is that they can hit me in odd places due to my legal midget status. This was not the case here. The shirt fit perfectly with the cut out hitting right at the top of my humerus.

I have rocked this shirt pretty much every other day. Rocking it with shorts, jeans, and even leggings.

The store only had it in the blush pink, but I stalked the website and lucked out with finding it in navy and red, both on sale. Can not beat a good bargain!

What do you think of the off the shoulder trend this summer? Yay or Nay?
