What DO I Wear: Easter Florals

I hope everyone is having an amazing Easter, and if you don’t celebrate an amazing weekend!

Easter has always been one of my favorite holidays. It is a true celebration and melding of spring, religion, tradition, family, rebirth, hope and love. As a Catholic Slovak, Easter was more important then Christmas and as such we had just as many traditions at Eastertide from attending mass during the Holy Triduum, to our humongous Slavish breakfast Easter morning, to “rabbit” prints scattered throughout the house, (our rabbit was a messy one!) the memories of Easter are some of my favorite from childhood.

Easter Best

Since I can remember we always attended the Easter Vigil, and my Mom would dress us up, usually in flowery frocks that would give Little House on The Prairie a run for their money. My sister and I would usually be matching and my mom would even let us wear gaudy Easter Bonnets.

When I was four I loved it, especially the fact I was twinning with my older sister, (Bless her heart) but as I got older, I revolted. I did NOT want to dress like Laura Ingalls Wilder.

while my fashion tastes improved immensely, I still love dressing up for the Easter Vigil (let’s be real, in general really) and I was permanently scarred when it came to florals and patterns.

Floral Loathing

I hope you all are sitting, but yes I loathed florals.

Gasps.

What?

Yes I wrote that.

Not that I am into the blame game, but if your mother dressed you in frilly gaudy dresses you would be scarred too! In all fairness I was against most prints in general, but the thing about fashion is that it evolves, and so do our tastes.

While I am still selective about what blooming prints I wear, I am not as staunchly opposed to them as I once was. And while it is probably the epitome of all fashion cliches, I do love a good floral print at Easter.

The Dress

I wasn’t sure what I thought of this dress when I first saw it at White House Black Market. The flowery water print patterned resembled something from a Monet pairing. They were at once eye catching, but also far outside my fashion comfort zone. Ultimately though, I decided to get it, because at fourteen dollars you can not beat that price.

It is a classic WHBM style dress, being well known for the shifted style which is flattering on pretty much anyone; short, tall, curvy, athletic, they fit everyone. The chiffon like fabric is delicate and feminine while still making it the perfect travel dress because it didn’t wrinkle.

While the water color print, was outside my comfort zone, what sold me on the dress was the cold shoulders. This is one of my favorite trends of all time. My shoulders are my best feature and anytime I see a shirt or a dress, I will more then likely buy it. I also love that the sleeves are a bit billowy, but they don’t get in the way of doing things.

Styling

There are pros and cons to styling colorful pattered clothes. It can be easy because of the multiple color palettes it lends itself too, but also difficult because you do not want to over due to much.

Despite the feminine cheerful colors on the dress there is a subtle olive green hue that I decided to play up. I paired my green anorak jacket with it for some warmth, and I decided to switch up the heels and opt instead for some glitzy flats. I kept my jewelry simple letting the pattern of the dress do the talking.

All in all this dress sold me. While I prefer to let my accessories, do the talking slowly but surely I am converting to prints, and this is the perfect look for an Easter Brunch or even a day in the park.
