What DO I Wear!?!? Flirty. Fun. Fall. Fashion.

“There’s design, and there’s art. Good design is total harmony. There’s no better designer than nature – if you look at a branch or a leaf, it’s perfect. It’s all function. Art is different. It’s about emotion. It’s about suffering and beauty – but mostly suffering!” ~ Diane von Furstenberg

Though I may be a mermaid at heart, their is something undeniable about Fall fashion. Boots, leggings, scarves, wool hats are all my thing. Perhaps it is because growing up in the White Mountains surrounded by foliage and brisk air, the changing of one season into another with equal pizazz and importance then say winter or summer. The vibrancy of colors. The leaves are nature’s fashion.

Being a fashionista doesn’t necessarily mean you follow the trends. To me it means style. Whether it is bohemian, or chic, or just plan simple. Fashion defines who a person is and is an expression of themselves. Thus while I try always to stay on top of my fashion A game. Sometimes I just have to cry uncle and say no way in blue blazes unless you pay me a million dollars. Then we shall perhaps speak.

Alas the last few years have in no way been like that. Instead, the fashion trends have spoken to me. They are me. With a few exceptions (palazzo pants anyone?) I have rocked them proudly and extensively, largely in part because these are fashion trends that have been staples in my closet for years.

The fall trends are a continuation of trends from the last few years, but with the added spin of 2016. Long vests, tunics, off the shoulder tops, and of course flowing shirts that make you feel much more comfortable if you are having one of those dreaded blah days. And the lace! Oh the lace! My favorite material not only coming to fruition but having its flipping hey day!

Here is a quick look at some of falls fabulous trends:

Leather:

There is something bad ass, yet incredibly chic about leather. Especially a leather jacket. Mine I bought from H&M five years ago and it has lasted me through many falls as well as springs and even when I needed something dressier during the Winter months. It is a piece I can dress up or dress down. I have paired it with flowing lace dresses, casual jeans and a T-shirt, coming from teaching yoga. I have even paired it with a dressy skirt to go to the office. Warm, cozy and rebel without a cause I will take it!

Denim:

Is probably the IT trend this season. Everything from denim shirts, skirts, jeans, jackets and tunics are back in style. Thank you nineties! If you can turn it into denim, it is a thing! While I am unsure about denim on denim. I do love a denim focal piece whether it is a shirt, bag or even skirt. One of my new favorite pieces is this denim tunic from White House Black Market. It is a casual piece that I can dress up if need be, while still being in style.

Scarves:

Scarves are the epitome of fall. They are that extra warmth, without being to heavy and yet also can take that outfit to the next level. I don’t think they will ever go out of style! While infinity scarves are so 2000’s, blanket scarves are my absolute favorite. You can wear them  a hundred different ways it seems, constantly giving your outfit a new look.

Lace:

Lace! Lace! Lace! I am a girl who is obsessed with lace! And no, not your Grandma’s handkerchiefs or Irish negligees from the Victorian times. (Actually I wouldn’t mind vintage.) Lace isn’t just for weddings or dressy occasions anymore. Shirts, skirts, dresses, even pants are all immensely popular this fall. If it is a texture other then cotton expect to see fashionistas wear it. The dress below is a perfect combination of fall trends, from the color, to the lace, to the uneven hemline and it is one of my favorite things in my closet this fall.

Off-the-Shoulder Any Top:

This is one of my favorite trends. Carried over from summer and given a fall make-over, I am literally obsessed. This is a look that combines edginess and sexiness in one look, yet literally anyone can do. While mother nature has stayed on the warmer side, I finally got to wear this navy blue wool cut out sweater whilst apple picking last weekend when we had a few days where Fall came a knocking. I am in love!  I have a feeling I am going to be rocking this all winter! The cold definitely won’t bother me anyway!

Vests:

Another favorite is the vests. And no, not the puffer vests that make you think of ski season, or the preppy sweater vests worn at private school. I am talking long bohemian open fronted vests. The 2016 version of capes, these knitted gems add that extra pizzazz to any outfit. I have been rocking the Lua Pontelle vest from Anthropologie to the point people probably think I sleep in it! Dresses, skirts, jeans, you name it, throw one of these flowy vests and you have become an instant style sensation!
