What DO I Wear?!?! More Spring Transitions

“Clothes is just something you put on to cover yourself… fashion is a way to communicate.” ~ Dries van Noten

Its beginning to feel a lot warmer… okay, okay it might be a touch of wishful thinking. But after four nor’easters in two weeks, I am grasping and not letting go of every degree and sun ray. The struggle for sunshine is real and I am running after it full throttle.

With Mother Nature’s temperamental ‘tude, the up and down temps make it difficult to plot a fashionista worthy wardrobe. I feel like I have to plan out three outfits a day with the chilly mornings, warm afternoons, and in between evenings. Layers really are a girls best friend.

The All Seasons LBD

I love dresses. Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall, dresses are my jam. They make an easy layering piece, pairing with leggings or patterned tights if it is chilly, or rocking the bare leg if it is hot out. Sounding like a broken record, I love my clothes to be versatile which is WHY this dress is such a gem in my wardrobe.

If there was any doubt I am a New Yorker this dress erases it. I admit to a love affair with black, and I love nothing more then the stapled Little Black Dress. It is a must have, not just for nights out, or for the work place, but travel, coffee shops, errand running, and  anything and everything in-between.

It is rare for me to shop at any other store then Anthropologie, but it does happen. And when it does, I am usually shopping at White House Black Market, which is were I found this the holy grail of LBDs.

I am a strong believer that clothes can be versatile, and still have that wow factor that makes them stand out and this dress has both. While I usually shy away from the nineties trends, one I can happily bandwagon is the choker neckline which is what makes this dress stand out.

Made of jersey material, it form fitting as well as flattering. With a v-neck line to balance the choker at the neck, the dress is ridiculously comfortable while still being fashionable. The only con, was the length is a little shorter then what I am usually comfortable with. Despite that it really is the perfect all season’s dress with the added benefit of taking it from day into night.

I have mentioned before my love hate relationship with booties. As a short curvy woman, they do NOTHING for me. Yet they are the perfect transitional shoe for when it is to hot to wear knee high boots, but still to cold to grab the flip-flops. Thus I have searched high and low for the perfect ones.

When I saw these booties, I was immediately drawn not only by the color, (hello army green!) but I do much better if they have an embellishment or are peep toed, something to add some dimension to the boot, which these have. I felt like Cinderella finding her Prince Sho-rming. Not only did they fit well, they didn’t look half bad either. They are crazily comfortable, with a square heel which is important with heels.

When I buy clothes, I usually have a vision in my head, but the dress is so versatile, that I was almost overwhelmed with the options, which is why I decided to play it simple and add varying shades of army green to make the outfit pop.

The mornings are always frigid on the East Coast in the Spring, so a jacket is a must. My lightweight anorak jacket not only added a boho edge, but also did the trick with keeping me warm. I paired a long army green pashmina that added some fashion as well as added warmth if it was an abnormally cold morning.

Because of the choker styled neckline, I kept my jewelry to my staples of hoops, a SeaMilligan bracelet, and my LightHouse Studio Design cuff, letting the dress do the talking.

The Look

What started out as a a mod podge of clothes, came together to create the perfect transition to a warmer days look. It molds trendy items, while still channeling the bohemian mermaid and gives me home that Spring IS coming!
