What DO I Wear: My Little Red Christmas OOTD

“Christmas is a bridge. We need bridges as the river of time flows past. Today’s Christmas should mean creating happy hours for tomorrow and reliving those of yesterday.” ~ Gladys Bagg Taber

The Little Red Dress

I have been wanting to share this dress with you since October when I bought it. Friends it just might be my most favorite Christmas outfit ever! Though technically I haven’t worn it for Christmas yet! I know women dream of their wedding dress, but friends, this was the dress I didn’t know I needed nor dreamed of! This red little number sets my heart all aflutter, and honestly it makes me feel so incredibly beautiful and confidant! Which at its core is what fashion is all about. Making you feel confidant, beautiful, and yes sexy. And since this dress does all of the above and more, it is a win-win!

The kicker is that it was SO far outside my comfort zone. Seriously, I typically don’t go for short dresses, because despite being a height challenged woman, I still feel like dresses can be super short on me (I honestly don’t know how tall people do it!) and that I am going to pull a Marilyn. I was definitely on the fence even with looking at measurements and sizing, (those guides are your best friend when online shopping) but I decided to take a chance and I am so happy I did!

In the Details

This red dress is from Lulu’s which is where I get most of my dressier dresses from. What caught my attention was the ruffled neck detailing. I LOVE a good Ruffle, and in my opinion a well placed ruffle can elevate any evening gown or cocktail dress taking it to that extra chic glam moment, and who can resist that? As I mentioned I was nervous about the length, but it is actually the perfect length just skimming above my knees. And with the flounced a-line skater skirt (another sign it was made for me!) I don’t have to worry about bending over. I also love the neckline which is a fairly deep vee, but it isn’t so plunging that you would have to watch where you wear it too. And with the ruffle it adds just the perfect amount of sexiness. I sized up to a medium, though with Lulu’s sizing I don’t really consider it sizing up as I typically am a medium (they run small!) and it fit perfectly!

Styling It

At first I wasn’t sure how I would style it since I didn’t wanted to let the ruffle do the taking. And with its placement wearing a jacket could be awkward. At the same time it is winter time, and you (okay I do) need a jacket of some kind. I had actually bought a sequined jacket this year and on a whim decided to style it with the dress and I LOVE how it turned out. It is the epitome of Christmas Glam! I have also paired my faux suede jacket with it, which also works and dare I say it, despite the fact we haven’t even celebrated Christmas, it would look amazing on Valentine’s Day as well!

I have been wearing  my black blocked heels with it, in part because they are comfortable, while still being chic, and these days I lean more towards comfort with my heels. But you could also do nude heels or even red! I added my classic, but still a glitzy statement Knotty Bow earrings from Sewcialite, as well as my staple Eiffel Tower necklace, for added glam. To finish the look, I applied my Dioramour Metallic Red lipstick and I am Christmas ready! This really is one of my favorite outfits to date. While it is bold, and was definitely outside my comfort zone, it actually gives me way more confidence and that is a win!
