What Do I Wear?!?! Not Your Prep School Sweater Vest

Not the sweater vest!

Before you gasp in horror and start lambasting me because oh. em. gee. Sweater vests? and asking if this is the nineties (according to designers yes yes it is) or just some seventies sitcom (that it is not). This is not your Steve Urkel sweater vest I promise you. I promise no suspenders and only chic argyle in sight. This is also NOT part of a horribly outdated school uniform.

Oh no. This is the cool updated 2017 version of the iconic prep school look and I am obsessed! Literally obsessed!

The new chic version

Riding on the tails of the kimono trend, open faced long and flowing sweater vests are all the rage, especially for Fall and Winter. The open faced knit clothes are perfect to pair over long sleeved shirts, sweaters, and even tank-tops or dresses for a layered look. They are the perfect chic accessory to add any pizazz, yet still add some warmth without getting over heated.

I admit I have an obsession, from an army green moto vest to faux fur, to the sweater vest, I am showcasing in today’s blog, I might need an intervention.  One of my favorite aspects of Fall, and even Winter (if there is ONE good thing about Winter) is the layering. You can literally switch any outfit up, by layering, and in doing so, create hundreds of different looks.

The Vest

I found this vest, at where else? But Anthropologie. (I am not predictable at all) As seems to be the trend with most of my favorite pieces in my closet, I was hesitant at first. I typically shy away from patterns, preferring neutral tones to get more longevity out of them. Yet the subtle blue tribal pattern called to me. and I decided to splurge.

It is shorter then some of my other sweater vests, BUT still long enough that it covers the derriere. It is heavy making it great for the chillier days of Fall. The camel color neutralizes the pattern, adding some versatility, and the rounded edges add a softness when it drapes.

The look

Still riding on the cold shoulder trend, I love the Fall updated sweater version. Pairing a navy blue off the shoulder sweater (which also happens to have bell sleeves…another Fall trend) makes the blue in the vest pop.

I happily admit I scream basic of basic during the Fall. With my leggings and boots, the only thing missing is a PSL, which as hard as I have tried to get into, I just can not.

I know! Please do not revoke my basic card. Please!

As much as I joke about being “Basic” (in all honesty WHAT does that even mean?) you also can not deny that leggings and boots ARE comfortable. It is one of the reasons I love this look so much. Fashion and comfort are a huge win in my book!

Completing the look, I settled for some subtle jewelry and a flash of red wine colored lip gloss.

It is the perfect look to go apple picking or enjoy some fall foliage fun!
