What DO I Wear?!?! Red, White, and Blue Look Book

“I always have the most fun on the Fourth of July. You don’t have to exchange any gifts. You just go to the beach and watch fireworks. It’s always fun.” ~ James Lafferty

Fourth of July Look Book

Now that it is officially summer, I thought it was about time I shared my Fourth of July slash patriotic look book which is JUST around the corner. Not to mention that most of these looks can be used for any day you want to get your red, white, and blue on. Many of these looks can be taken from the beach to cook outs, with a few dressier options thrown in, because let’s face it I think most of us are ready to go all out in our best fashion forward garb, now that quarantine is over.

Being patriotic is not just rocking stars and stripes (nothing against that or anything) or a big ol’ flag tee which if you want to, go for it. It can be rocking any combination of red, white, and blue and most people have those colors in their wardrobe so you don’t have to spend a fortune to be festive. Heck throwing a white tee with blue denim works. You do you boo! Many of these looks are super versatile and with the right styling, you can create fun, yet chic looks which is what I always aim for.

I found most of these clothes at Pink Lily, and everything is linked on my LIKEtoKNOW.it page. Some links are affiliated which helps me pay for my coffee addiction as well as summer fun.

Slouchy Stars Sweater

I admit, I am not a huge stars or stripes person, but this sweater from Pink Lily is a must! It is a fun way to be festive without being to over the top. The paper weight material is light whilst being super soft and cozy, yet still perfect for cooler summer days. It is slightly see through so I usually wear a bralette underneath. It is also long enough to knot it in front which is a big trend this season. I have been pairing it with denim or my favorite paperbag shorts.

It is also perfect as a beach cover up and if you want to really channel your patriotism, pairing it over a red bikini, means you are ready for celebrating at the beach this fourth of July.

Must have bikini color

Speaking of red bikinis, patriotic or not, EVERYONE needs a red bathing suit. (and while we are on the topic, a black one as well) I know it can seem like a daring choice, but there is something so chic, bold, and yes confidence boosting about a red bathing suit. And yes you can’t get much more patriotic THEN a red bathing suit, unless maybe you own an American Flag one, but hey I am going for chic, AND want to wear it more then just on Memorial Day and the Fourth. After all I am all about getting the most bang for my buck and longevity out of my clothes EVEN with holiday wear!

Blue and White

Blue and white in my opinion are a color combination that not only goes well like PB and J, but screams summer and yes they just so happen to be patriotic. Sweater tanks are on trend right now and this cerulean tank gives an updated version to patriotism chic when paired with white denim. It is a brighter version to navy and white. It also can be worn through out the summer. Did I mention versatility? I admit I own so much blue, that I am always able to pull patriotic looks from my closet when needed, this time of year. It is a chic subtle way to celebrate without spending a fortune. Likewise it can also be done with red as well.

I am also saying it now, if you do not own a pair of white denim OR a white skirt, or even white shorts. you NEED too. Honestly a pair of white jeans is a necessity in any wardrobe and in my opinion can be worn YEAR round. Yes I AM talking about white.

Paperbag Shorts

While Paperbag shorts are a trend that doesn’t scream patriotic, of course depending how you style them they are. It also helps that I am obsessed with this style, because they are so insanely flattering for shorts, which I am always weary off. I also just happen to own them not just in white, but also a shade of blue that happens to work very well for the fourth and with the above mentioned stars sweater, I own. It is amazing how some clothing doesn’t scream festive until styled with that right pieces.

Flag Tee

I am a firm believer that clothing needs to be versatile, with the exception of two rules: one,  EVERYONE needs an American (or your country of origin) flag tee in their wardrobe. And the other being everyone needs at least ONE ugly Christmas sweater (or if you are me ten, BUT I celebrate Christmas for three months straight so I get my money’s worth!) Pink Lily has a ton of American flag and ‘Murica tees and sweatshirts, but I love how this one is slightly cropped and very slouchy. It is perfect to pair with jeans, shorts, or skirts.

Red and Blue Rompers

Rompers are a summer must. Styling them takes very little effort, and yet they are always a fashion show stopper. It took me a few years, but I now LOVE them in part because Pink Lily has a bunch of styles that fit perfectly. Because, yes, even short girls have to worry about showing to much tushy which is always a real concern. This red one says Happy Fourth in a subtle fashion which I love. And I can still rock it the rest of summer!

I also picked up this muted blue halter style romper which is perfect for when the Fourth is hot and you want to be stylish AND cool. For both rompers I have been styling my white crocheted cardigan which has been a summer staple this year.

Blue Amazon Dress

This dress is truly a tried and true old faithful. I have had it for years, and not only is it still holding up, it never goes out of style. It is perfect as a cover up over a swimsuit or to go out at night. While it comes in a gazillion colors, the navy is my favorite. And it is also perfect to wear to Fourth of July celebrations, which I have done multiple times. It is such a good piece that I have no shame in rewearing it again and again and again.

Let’s Get Glammed up

These next three looks are all about the glam side of the Fourth, perfect for garden parties, dressier barbecues, or just a night out at the yacht club watching fire works. The first dress I know, I know, I keep mentioning this blue striped dress from Pink Lily, but friends this dress really is perfect for ALL of the above mentioned. And more! It really has been my staple for weddings and even celebrating MY birthday the year. But because of the blue and white stripes it is also perfect for celebrating the Fourth.

This next dress is on trend for the summer and after living in sweats for the last year why not go all out with trends? (with in reason friends, still keeping MY skinny jeans and side part thank you!) The square neckline, ruched bodice AND puffed sleeves are trendy while the white gives you a blank slate to be either patriotic subtle or go all out. I personally love pairing a denim jacket with it.

The last look is a little bit more fun and we ALL need some fun! This ombre hued dress isn’t necessarily patriotic, but it is colorful and perfect for summer!
