“Actually, I never liked the idea of bags. I would say, ‘Why do so many of my friends spend so much money on these bloody bags?’ But once I started designing them, I was completely hooked.: ~ Nicola Formichetti
The Inner Purse Fight
Firstly, I want to apologize to the fashion Gods for being so damn judgy and critical. For years, I shunned the crossbody bag, thinking it was a purse fit for grandmas or else a flashback to Flashdance. (the horror!) I refused. REFUSED, to even THINK about touching a crossbody bag! Why DID I NEED a crossbody bag when I could use a tote?
I mean seriously with living in the city and in m line of work, I have to lug my whole life and the kitchen sink around this concrete jungle. S smaller purse just is NOT practical.
Crossbody Convert
As I was exploring in Georgia, I realized that it actually DID make sense to have one. I go between two extremes, holding a small clutch, or carrying my whole life, there is no in between. Not to mention the fact, I pretty much have a permanent coffee cup attached to my hands anyway, and it would make it easier for when I ask my friends to take pictures and I have to give them all my crap. (sorry guys I love you anyway! Thank you!)
THEN an almost disaster occurred. When I was beach combing in Georgia my phone fell out of the side pocket on my tote. I knew. I absolutely knew if I had a crossbody bag it would NEVER have happened (okay it probably wold, but please go with my justifications to buy one more thing!)
Thus the search began.
I had seen a couple on social media that were passable in my fashionably critical mind’s eye. We had gone to the Mall in Georgia and went into Express and there I found the one! (cue choirs of angels singing)
The Crossbody
I was a bit surprised I had found one so quickly (but then I am Type A, we make top our mind we do it!) and the I would be so enamored with it. Made of faux suede, it was a decent size; not ridiculously small nor to big. (oh the irony) It had a front flap with a metal closure. The kicker was the strap was the perfect size for me.
If you have read this blog, you know I am vertically challenged and I admit it was another reason I didn’t like this style. The darn strap is usually so long, it hits my ankles. This, sits at my hip. If you were slightly taller, I am not sure this would work, but on me it was perfect and another sign that the shopping gods were on my side.

I would say my only complaint is there are no inside pockets. But you win some, you lose some.
Because I was flying I held off.
Again karma was on my side, I because the next day it was half off. Score!
Styling
I bought it in my favorite color of army green. It matches my winter jacket -not to mention my entire wardrobe- perfectly! I also picked it up in a gorgeous navy blue. Despite the suede like material, it is actually the perfect bag to transition from Winter to Spring. (yes I am dreaming of Spring already!)
I can not wait to rock this, when i do not have to wear such a bulky coat. I also love the versatility of being able to ear it offer my shoulder or across. While I admit I fought it, I am so happy I caved.
What do you think of the crossbody bag? Do you have one? Is there a style you fought and finally cave and now love?
Love the bag! Such a perfect size xx
I really like crossbody bags, couldn’t live without them! They look cool and you have easy access to your stuff! Great post! xx Friederike
As somebody who hates carrying a bag and is only made to do so by the fact that my phone is too big to fit into a jean pocket, I love the crossbody bag because it’s practically hands-free and I can forget I have it on. It’s only beaten by the rucksack.
So glad you’ve “crossed over” as a crossbody convert! I’ve always carried a crossbody because they seem more secure to me that regular bags, and because I don’t have to hunch my shoulders to get them to stay on. Plus, when the bag is adorable as yours, how can you resist? 🙂
Oh I love a crossbody bag, I can’t believe you used to be so against them! I literally think they are the easiest bag to carry around, in fact I can’t believe you used to prefer clutches over crossbody’s, clutches are sooo inconvenient! You have to keep hold of them constantly- they’re especially annoying on a night out when all you want to do is dance!! I always make sure that the bags I take on a night out are clutch style BUT with a strap so I don’t have to hold the bag, I couldn’t buy one without. Anyway, I love the style you’ve chosen and I’m so happy you’ve found your perfect crossbody and with so much ease too. I love your outfit / style posts so much, they’re always so well done! xx
Friends holding all your crap. Gee what do you mean?! Hahaha love you, friend. See you soon, and as always, you rock any style. XO
I used to hate these bags too! I thought they were just a fad at first. Now I love them because I ALWAYS used to set my purse down and forget where. Now I don’t lose anything because it’s literally strapped to my body lol
