“I have a great plain blue shirt from APC, and a denim one from Dolce that I wear constantly. It’s hard to find the perfect denim shirt, but this is it.” ~ Felicity Jones

One of the “It” trends this fall is denim. But it isn’t just the typical jeans or even denim dress shirt. Oh no it is the denim tunic. A button down shirt long enough to wear along as a dress or with leggings like I have done.
I admit I was hesitant about this trend. My verdict was leaning towards fashion faux pas and to much regression into the eighties and nineties for my taste. As a nineties girl, I can sincerely say no thank you. Please leave the Steve Maddens, boot cut jeans AND butterfly clips safely in that decade. Of course fashion is always recycling trends, putting a modern spin on them. Which is where the denim shirt comes in.
While most of us remember the short denim shirts, known more for the fashionista channeling the Western horse rider as well as those ghastly (and yes I was guilty of owning one) denim skirts in the nineties, the trends this fall have definitely (thank god!) been modernized. While denim skirts are popular right now, and no I have not caved and bought one…though I won’t lie it was tempting.
The denim shirt dress is where it is at. I admit when I first saw it appearing in my email from such retailers like Anthropologie, Free People, and even White House Black Market, I had my doubts, but those have swiftly turned to love. And so I began the hunt for a denim shirt dress.
Alas as a height challenged woman, I had a hard time finding one. I tried on numerous ones and each time I got the poof in the back (if you are tall you have no idea what I am talking about..But I sure you it is ghastly!) yards of fabric bunching to give me a distorted second stomach. or maybe to make my vertebrae look out of place. However you want your imagination to fly it isn’t attractive, thus I moved on until I finally found one that was doable and better yet it came in petite! Good-bye ugly fabric poof!
My shirt dress is from white house black market. Sold in a dark wash which is flattering for everyone, it is made to safe our sanity and time with faux buttons that snap. It also has sleeves that can be rolled up so you can have three different looks.
I decided to channel my inner Femme le Kita and paired it with leggings, black boots and my leather jacket. It really is shirt that is versatile and I can see myself wearing it into the summer. Yes, this mermaid is already dreaming about summer!
What do you think about the denim Shirt dress and the denim resurgence in general? Yay or Nay?
If only you were British! Boy would I ask you out! Ha ha

LOVE LOVE LOVE. I haven’t seen too many of these, but I am hunting one down now. Too stinking cute.
Thanks beauty! It is so comfortable too! <3
Love it ! Being petite I have the hardest time finding dresses or pants in my size that don’t need to be altered too 😘
Thanks beauty! I really adore White House Black market because of this. While they do tend to the more business, I have found really cute pants/jeans from them and of course this dress! <3
