What DO I Wear?!?! The LOD: Little Old Dress

What DO I Wear?!?! The LOD: Little Old Dress

“Women who have understood fashion and style for so long have always known it’s not about having more pieces. It’s about having the right pieces and having the pieces that are of a great quality and look like you know what you’re doing.” ~ Meghan Markle

Staple Piece

We all have that piece of clothing that we love to rock over and over and over again, until literally we have thousands of pictures and we look like we are wearing the same thing day after day. Which we are…just in different locations.

It is only fitting being an Anthro Addict that my staple piece would be a dress from Anthropologie.

I found this dress four years ago, and instantly fell in love

The Dress

No it isn’t the dress is not a wedding dress, (though Say Yes to the Dress, BHLDN and I have become bosom buddies…ahem….) but it is definitely THEE dress. Alas the first order of business when I bought it was to get it tailored. Badly. It was about a foot to long. But that did not stop me from coveting this piece.

What caught my eye

While it looks like separate pieces, this maxi dress is just that. A dress. It has a long black skirt with a sexy slit on the side and a grey tank attached to the skirt. Completing the neutral palette is a drapy navy blue slightly off the shoulder shirt attached to the grey. I had never seen a dress designed like this, yet while it is unique, it is done in a simple, casual way.

The cotton material could be clingy, but some how isn’t, hugging and flattering my curves in all the right places! Another bonus is that it is super soft and light weight. It also packs extremely well, becoming the perfect jet-setting piece. Comfy and stylish who can beat that?

Styling

This is a more casual piece, while you can dress it up, I definitely do not deliberately rock it any where dressy at night nor do I wear it at the clubs. It does have some seasonal versatility to it, rocking it into the Fall where you could make it edgier as well as give it a slightly more night time vibe, by pairing some sassy cut out booties and a leather jacket, but I digress…this IS a Summer post.

This is the perfect day dress during the summer. While it is a dress, making it harder to shake up the look, I live by the motto, “Accessories. Accessories. Accessories.” They really do make all the difference! Whether it is a hat and a denim jacket, or a kimono and some gems, the neutral palette of this dress, lends itself to a variety of looks, which this blonde fashionista loves!

What do you think of the dress? Do you have that staple go to piece you constantly rock?

I am a country girl living on the Upper East Side of the concrete jungle. My friends call me a modern day Renaissance woman. I have dabbled in a little bit of everything, from being a yoga instructor to holistic chef, to skating coach, to glorified nanny, to student. I am a self admitted coffee junkie. A wannabe mermaid. A wanderluster who dreams of other countries. A fashionista who really does need a bigger bank account. But most important of all, I dream of living in a bungalow by the ocean and being a published writer (in style of course) sipping coffee in the morning and a martini in the evening. I love to meet my readers, so feel free to comment or email me. Happy reading!

  1. Love the dress!!!! For sure fooled me as you were talking about “the dress” as I saw 3 separate pieces, glad you cleared that up 😉 But I actually love that feature of it looking like they’re separate pieces, its different and by the looks of the material it definitely has that nice comfy casual texture about it. I specifically love it paired with the good ol’ jean jacket!!!

    1. Thanks beauty! Haha right? It always fools people. Ironically I have a shirt and skirt, that people always think is a one piece and it is to separates. I love the fashion mind games! ;p
I do too! So unique! It is SO comfy! Thanks sweets! That good ol’ jean jacket is SUCH a staple! 🙂 <3

  2. Ok ok literally the one word that came to my mind in all these pictures was “mermaid”. Your lifeeee. I just love it. And that dress is amazing. I definitely have staple pieces, weirdly that are from like middle school haha. I have a go to green shirt and a couple halter tanks that I wear more than I’d like to admit! I hope you are doing so well. I’ve had such a blast catching up on your blog. It really makes my heart happy. I send you so much love and sun from Californyayyy!

    1. Ahhh a Mack comment! You always brighten my day when I see your beautiful words!

  3. I like these two looks. The maxi dress with kimono or denim coat, hat and necklace is really a perfect outfit when you go to the beach. Stunning photos.
