“Fashion is what you’re offered four times a year by designers. And style is what you choose.” ~ Lauren Hutton
I have a problem. It isn’t a huge problem. It definitely would not be considered a first world problem. But it is a problem none the less.
I buy multiples.
Yup I said it.
Phew I feel better.
No I am not crazy.
Much.
To clarify when I say I buy multiples, if I find a shirt that hugs me in all the right places. I will check to see if it is in other colors and buy them. There is nothing better to a fashionista then finding a great shirt or dress.
What makes me contemplate buying an item of clothing in more then one color? Well multiple (pun intended) reasons.
First and foremost the fit.
I am extremely particular about the fit. I generally don’t like tight clothing especially shirts. A hang up of mine, is my tummy, and anything that emphasis that I will not wear it. At the same time, if it is to flowy, I look like I am either a tent or pregnant. No bueno on either account. Through an Instagram fashion account (Mrscocowyse check her style out!) I found a shirt by Pleione at Nordstrom and ended up falling in love with the flattering fit. I may or may not own it in twelve different colors…oops.

The price.
I joke all the time that I am a poor starving artist. Their are few and very far in between writers who are rolling in it. While I pick and choose my pieces and will definitely shell out the moolah for an item of clothing that I love, I can not afford to do that on a daily bases. So I shop the sales. Like the Pleione shirt mentioned above, they are always rotating the colors, so I can buy them on sale. A win-win when you find an article of clothing you love.
They are generally basic pieces.
While I adore lace and cocktail dresses, buying multiples usually tend to be the more simple staple pieces. Tunics, tank tops, sweaters, even shorts. Items that you can style, even if you wear the same shirt everyday, it still looks different because of accessories.
They might be the same design, but they are different colors.
With the exception of pants and shorts, I generally try to buy them in different colors so I have a selection to choose from. There are days that I wear the same shirt, but it is in a different color. I also have a dress from Victoria Secret (RIP clothing and swimsuit line) that I have in eight different colors. It is a maxi that has generally revolutionized my traveling, because I can crumple it in my suitcase and pull it out and it STILL is wrinkle free.

You will regret it if you don’t.
There have been many a time where I lament about the fact I didn’t buy it in another color. Just recently I bought a shirt on sale from Anthropologie and was upset because I couldn’t buy it in other colors. I love it THAT much! Thankfully there is the internet because I ordered every color they had in my size online and have been wearing them every day since!

You aren’t the only one to do it.
I have talked to many a friend. We all do it. Find that piece we like and hoard it in every color of the rainbow. It isn’t taboo. It is being a smart fashionista.
I have the philosophy if it works for you, makes you feel like a million dollars, and you love it, buy it in every color. The staple pieces are begging to be mixed and matched.
