What DO I Wear?!?! Column Inspiration

I owe a huge thank you to Jenny over at SitBackandJustLive for inspiring this column. She had seen this dress in a travel post I had done last month and asked me if I was going to blog about it. Well I could not disappoint her and here we are!

WHBM

While I might be an Anthro-Addict there is another store that I shop at with some regularity. And no it isn’t Lululemon. WHBM otherwise known as White House Black Market. They are a much more business oriented store with clothes that while chic and classic, also can have a trendy bohemian vibe. It is a store for the fashionable business woman.

What is more, they have petites!

Cue choir of angels and the halo effect!

For the legal little person with the Kim K Bootay in the house, that is a huge plus for me. I buy ninety-nine point nine of all my bottoms there. They not only are the appropriate length, but actually fit well. In other words (and if you are short you know what I am talking about!) the pockets sit in the appropriate area and are not halfway down my leg because they just chopped of the ankle, but didn’t fix the inseam.

The Find

Bottoms aside, I also love their dresses, which I can typically wear them without having to go to the petite’s section. They have a wide range of flowy and fitted styles, giving the shopper ALL the options!

I was on the South Shore of Boston last Summer, shopping at the Derby Shops and of course I HAD to pop into WHBM.

Like a spotlight was shining down on it, I made a beeline to the holy grail of dresses.

All in the Details

Short, with a blouson top, the sleeves, while flowy, had the cut-out shoulders that were  and continue to be, so trendy. It had a pink floral print, mixed with a slightly geometric pattern at the hem, against a white backdrop. It also has a belt with tassels at the waist.

It was the last part that should have made me shy away from it. I am not a fan of tassels attached to my clothing. But this actually helped with the bohemian vibes.

It was a casual dress, but at the same time had some boho funk. The light and airy material is also miraculously wrinkle proof.

The Perfect Travel Dress

With its relaxed, yet still fashionista vibe, it is the perfect travel dress.

When I travel, I typically try to be some what stylish. Traveling is stressful enough, looking like I am marching into hell does nothing to alleviate that. Thanks to lugging my suitcase up and down stairs, I usually opt for cool dresses or leggings and tunics. This dress is perfect for summer travel since the material makes it feel light and airy. I am not going to be sweating it off!

// Dress: White House Black Market // Shoes: DSW // Necklace Seamilligan Designs // Cuff: Lighthouse Studio Designs //

Styling it

I usually pair it with my denim jacket, or a long white duster sweater for the over zealous air conditioned airports. I tend to stick to my staple jewelry of Seamilligan Design necklace, Lighthouse Studio cuff, and hoop earrings. Occasionally I will add a hat for the days I just can not be bothered to do my hair.

This dress really is ole faithful and perfect for the summer.

  1. YESSS this post did not disappoint!!! <3 <3 <3 WHBM is seriously a favorite of mine too. I haven't been in so long (well, shopping in general) but that store sucks me right on in!!!! That dress style is sooo up my ally, I love that it's blousey, fitted. but loose so that you can breath and move comfortably and the length and color, just perfect!! There's that jean jacket again, literally EVERYTHING looks good with that jacket. Still haven't bought one myself but again, I overdue for some retail therapy. I also love the wedges you paired it with! A summer beauty!!! <3
