What DO I Wear?!?! White Before Memorial Day

Rules like ‘don’t wear white after Labor Day’ or ‘shoes matching the handbag’ are antiquated. Modern women should feel free to experiment. Stacy London

The age old question, “Can you wear white before Memorial Day and after Labor Day?” Why yes, yes you can! As Stacy London said it is an antiquated rule! No longer are you restricted to wearing “Winter White,” during the Holiday season. Which let’s be real is just another name for cream.

Oh no you can rock it year round!

Okay maybe not mud season…..regardless of what Nordstrom says…mud splatters ain’t cute on anyone! And it probably is not a good idea to wear it to any bridal events unless you want to be that person every one shoots daggers at. But…any other time it is a total fashionable go.

And while yes, people are afraid to wear it, due to the spillage factor. Being a klutz, I would rather spill something whilst wearing white then any other color…Because I can bleach it back to its pristine white condition.

Crisis averted.

Love affair and IT color

White and I have a very VERY good relationship, I even talked about my love affair with it, in THIS blog post last summer. Even its symbolism of perfectionism speaks to THIS type A perfectionist And while I am far from a perfect angel, I am still obsessed with it.

There is a reason that P-Diddy (Puff Daddy? Sean “P-Diddy” Combs? What EVER he goes by these days…) has a white party every year. It is a color that screams coolness. In fact it use to be that only royalty could wear this color.

As one of the continued IT colors of the season, it has a versatility that other such neutrals lack. It can be paired with just about any color, and it is EVERYWHERE. Walking into a store it literally has walls devoted to it.

Oh yes, White is in its hey day and yes that means BEFORE Memorial Day and AFTER Labor Day.

White Jeans

People tend to shy away from white, thinking it makes them look bigger. It doesn’t. In fact white can be quite slimming, adding a starchness to lines that other colors lack. One of my favorites is white jeans. I bought mine from White House Black Market and have been rocking regardless of the time of year. Not only are they comfy, but they are also incredibly versatile. I can wear anything with them. From black and Blue (pun intended) to dressing them up to dressing them down.

White jeans are literally the one jean that is acceptable in a semi dressy situation. Hamptons anyone?

The outfit

I tend to pair my jeans with heels and a blouse creating a versatile look that can take me from a tea party, to a night out on the town.

I am obsessed with this blouse and has already had a starring role in one What DO I Wear Column?!?! And I am sure it will have another very soon.

The colorful knitted embroidery against a (keeping with the theme) white background makes it not just easy, but extremely versatile to style with almost anything. I paired my new favorite blush stilettos from Aldo, and grabbed a crocheted shawl from Anthro for those chilly nights.

To finish the look, I added some gold jewelry from Anthropologie as well as my custom SeaMilligan Designs tassle necklace.

Do you wear white Before or After Labor Day? How do you wear white? What do you think of the look? As always I love to hear from you!

  1. I’m obsessed with this post AND this outfit! I’ma firm believer that fashion and makeup should have no rules. Plus you’re totally true about the bleaching! xx.

    1. Awee thanks sweets! Right? I agree with you a hundred percent! Fashion is just an extension of us and our personalities. Haha yay for bleach! It has saved my jeans on more then one occasion!😘

  2. I usually don’t wear white because I’m afraid of going out in white and getting it dirty while I’m out. Worrying if someone will touch me with messy or sticky hands lol sitting in something. But I always think it looks really nice paired with the right things. Your pictures are lovely

  3. White looks good on you 😄
I once wore white to my job at the daycare centre and it came home multicolored 😂
But like You day, I just washed and bleached it back to its original white colour 🙂

    1. Awe thank you so much!
Okay I might have to reedit my post to add. “Do NOT wear around children”🤣
But it is so true. While it does get dirtier easier, it is SO easy to clean. 💗

  4. Hell yeaaahhh girl preach!!! If Kate Sutton also says we can wear white then heck I will be wearing white 😉 I love a good white pair of jeans, although I’m terrified Ill get something on them, I love white equally as much as black. It just has such a classy clean appeal to it. I love these “What Do I Wear” series, keep them coming!!!

  5. You ROCKED this outfit!!!! In the Bay area I feel like everyone wears white before memorial day (mainly because it’s a neutral tone, and basically that’s all that anyone wears). And I am sooo on board with that. Anywho- I love love LOVE this. I always get my fashionista inspo from you! Thanks for sharing, dear, and have the best weekend! XO
